The Banter Bulldog is a modern day reconstruction of the Brabanter Bullenbeisser. Banter Bulldogs resemble a medium sized, structurally superior Boxer. Banter Bulldogs are intelligent and atheletic, excelling in agility and weightpull.
Below, Banter Bulldogges bred by Todd Tripp of Ohio, U.S.A.
Banter Bulldogge information
The Banter Bulldogge was founded by Todd Tripp of Pulldoggies Kennels. Todd says: "This is my dream in action. To build a strong working dog that compares to the Brabanter of the 1700's. We have worked for several years to develop this breed and have been very successful with our 2nd, 3rd and continuing generations. Our dogs are not direct descendants of the Extinct Brabanter Bullenbeisser but a example of what we believe they once were.
As far as we know this is the only bulldog breed born in Ohio, USA.
The component breeds used in the re-creation are
Boxer
American Staffordshire Terrier
American Pit Bull Terrier
American Bulldog
Keep in mind that ALL Banter Bulldogge's carry dominant Boxer heritage and a perfected compilation of the other Component breeds. a true Banter is not just a Boxer Pit mix but a fine example of our dedicated and well thought program. Our Dogs are not 1st time crosses they are generational Breeding's of our program. We do not refer to our dogs as mixes, mutts or crosses of any of the component breeds. We take pride in our dogs and enjoy working our stock. We developed the standard for this breed and have made great strides in maintaining them. We believe the Banter Bulldogge should always be kept working and feel all dogs to be bred should contain a quality level of working experience. Not only do we feel breeding dogs have true working accomplishments but they must conform to the standard and have excellent health".

It is a excellent watchdog and will bark to alarm danger or to scare off trespassers. Are steady to protect if necessary but accepting of welcomed guests. They have a lower energy level indoors than out. However Banter Dog's do need to get a good workout or energy can become built up. They are a ruff and tuff dog playing and can be fine with other dogs as long as they have been properly socialized. A fun dog with its family always eager for play time and is smart enough to know when play time is over. Please also visit our Q&A page.

Bulldogge
Created by Todd Tripp of Ohio in the late 1990's.
"My vision was to re-create the Brabanter Bullenbeisser of the 1700’s in central Belgium province known as Brabant. A strong working dog with a bully build, there legs still underneath them they were believed to range from 40-80pds a slight under bite and mostly solid in color with minimal white. My foundation consisted or dogs that were Boxer and of a working bull breed. Most of all was the consistency of using a High percentage of Boxer in the foundation brood stock. Being very selective in choosing dogs to be in my foundation and by using selective breeding to reach the final goal".
This information below helped me to begin to create our breed of dog known as The Banter Bulldogge
The Brabanter Bullenbeisser was the small Bullenbeisser type that was found as a family guard and working dog in the 1700's early 1800's. The Brabanter Bullenbeisser was the smaller more bull doggy type of Mastiff used to create the modern day Boxer in conjunction with other Larger Bavarian mastiffs and the obvious infusion of the "Old Time English Bulldogge's". It is also widely known that the Brabanter carried very little if any White until the 1830's when the first English type Bulldogge was first imported into Germany.
** John Wagner's Book, The Boxer, first published in 1939 **
** " This Brabanter Bullenbeisser, once the sole property of the nobility, became the butcher's and the cattle dealer's dog His intelligence and tractability enabled the Bullenbeisser to reinvent himself as a family and a guard dog. The Brabanter, was developed for use in close quarters on small game and was bred in the central Belgian province of Brabant." Wagner, 1950) **
** "his remarkable intelligence and tractability endeared him to so large a group of individuals that he carried on when so many breeds completely disappeared. " (Wagner, 1950)**
How the Name came to be.
The Banter meaning in definition “to address in a witty and teasing manner, Good-natured and usually witty and animated joking" this uncanny word meaning to the description of the temperament of our breed was interesting. Also coming from the Old Belgium dogs of the 1700's from the area in and around Brabant know as the Brabanter Bullenbeisser. This Helped to lead me to the name Banter Bulldogge.
Banter Bulldogge's are athletic and very capable of many of today's canine sports such as weight pull, agility and personal protection. They are also at home doing terrier work or just as a home pet/watchdog. They must be loyal, great with children and never be overly Human aggressive but yet cautious of strangers.

What is a Banter Bulldogge like ?
Q-1. I do not plan to weight pull with my dog, would it make a good pet.
A-1. Yes, the Banter Bulldogge can make a great pet but will require 30 minutes to 1 hour of good playtime each day along with some mental challenging.
Q-2. Are they easy to train?
A-2. Yes but as with any bull breed may be stubborn in certain situations.
Q-3. Are they good with kids?
A-3. Banter Bulldogges are great with kids. As with any puppy and child they both have to learn proper ways to play with each other.
Q-4. Are they social with other dogs.
A-4. The Banter Bull is very social within its own pack. With proper stern training they can be social with other dogs and is easiest if started at a young age. In tact Males can become dominate or aggressive with other males. Keep in mind that a Banter Bulldogge is a physical specimen and a true working Bulldog who places itself mentally above other common dogs.
Q-5. Are these bulldogs aggressive to people.
A-5. The Banter will not welcome all strangers. All dogs require proper socialization and this cannot be relaxed with the Banter Bulldogge.
Suffolk Bullbreeds Curly
Curly is the result of a well thought out breeding program. This project has been strongly influenced by the Banter Bulldogge. Although we have used different construction breeds the results are much the same. Curly will be bred to a Hip Scored, health screened Boxer to produce our own version of the Banter Bulldogge. Pups from this breeding will conform to the breed standard of the Banter Bulldogge in terms of height, weight, structure and temperament.
